Prosthetics

At Maine Orthotics and Prosthetics, we spend a lot of time listening. We want to make sure we understand what each patient needs and wants. Whether it’s to be able to go for a walk or run a marathon, shake hands or throw a baseball, we provide a wide range of prosthetic devices from the most basic to the most technologically advanced.

We know that a prosthesis may be perfect for one person, but entirely wrong for another. Using state-of-the art technology and materials, we custom make each prosthetic in our full-service fabrication laboratory, located in our Portland office.

The components of an artificial limb — the foot or ankle, knee, arm or hand — are obviously important. The most crucial part, however, is the socket, which fits around the remaining or residual limb. In order for a prosthetic device to be of any benefit, it can’t hurt to wear it. The socket has to fit just right.

Our clinical staff includes experienced professional prosthetists and fitters, each with credentials. They make sure that our patients are not only fitted properly with the most appropriate device, but also fully understand how it works and how to use it.
